AUGUST NOTE
Welcome back to a new school year! I am Kathy Stinely, BSN RN, the nurse for Booth Fickett. I am here at school every day along with our two health assistants, Ms. Mikel and Ms. Hannah. We are here to help keep your students healthy and safe at school.
The start of a new school year brings exciting opportunities to both students and school staff. It can also be challenging and stressful for parents and students. If you have a student who has a medical diagnosis or specific health needs, please contact us in the health office. We will work with you to make sure student's needs are met while they are at school. I also ask that you explore this website. The tab labeled HEALTH PROBLEMS has general information for you regarding school policies for medications and other health related information. Under this tab you will also find specific information for students with diabetes, food allergies and asthma, along with the forms we use to plan your student's care. In addition to information on specific diagnoses, the website has guidelines on when students should stay home from school due to illness and information on sun safety, nutrition and exercise to help keep you and your students healthy.
The website also has a section on immunizations. You may have received a letter from me at the end of last school year listing specific immunizations your child will need to have before school starts. Please make sure your student has obtained these shots and bring the record to the HEALTH OFFICE. Students who have turned 11 and are entering the sixth grade will need to have received the Tdap and MCV shots. You can find information on both of these vaccines under the webpage's immunization tab. Kindergarten students will need to provide an up to date immunization record. If you have any questions regarding how to read your child's record or what shots they should have had go to the TUSD site for details or see a health office staff member. If you have questions or concerns regarding immunizations, please take a moment to look at the information listed in the immunization section of the Booth Fickett Health Office webpage. I also will be happy to answer any questions or address any of your concerns. Just stop by or give me a call at 731-3817.
We will be sending home information and consent forms from Access Arizona Smiles shortly after the school year starts. This wonderful program brings dentists and dental hygienists right to our school to provide dental care to our students. If you don't have a dentist for your child or find getting them to appointments difficult, please review this information and complete the application. The people from Access Arizona Smiles will contact you to make sure you qualify and answer your questions. For more information about dental programs offered at our school and a short program on caring for your teeth, click on the dental program link that is also listed under the MORE tab.
The Health Office staff looks forward to working with you and your students to ensure a healthy and happy year of learning!
